White Squall

I  remember watching this movie when it first came out back in the 90s. After watching again with Christa, it’s likely not the best film to get her excited about sailing. Boat sinks, people die, etc.

From the IMDB page: Teenage boys discover discipline and camaraderie on an ill-fated sailing voyage. A true story about a group of American boys who crew a school sailing ship to gain experience, discipline, or whatever their parents feel they lack. The voyage is a true adventure for them all but it has its downs as well as ups.

The reason it is referred to as ill fated is that it rolls in a storm and sinks taking crew and the wife of the captain with it.

The movie is based on the story of the last days of the brigantine Albatross. There is a pretty good Wikipedia page about it here.

Couldn’t find this on Netflix, but you can rent or buy it from Amazon.
